Common Wealth Games 2010
2010 common wealth games is one of the largest multi-sport event will take place between October 3 to October 14. Capital of New Delhi, has pride in creating a common wealth games in 2010. In past history, this is the second time that such a grand event will be organized in Asia.
This is somewhat of sporting events held sweep Featuring athletes in the world. At the beginning of this great event was held in 1930, entitled as “The British Empire Games. Later, the new name was mandated in 1978 as the Common Wealth Games.
India is also time to honor the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. This is the first case where the common wealth Games to be held in India. Opening and closing ceremony is scheduled at the stadium named after Jawaharlal Nehru.
India sports minister will lead the Committee for the Games while the Indian Olympic Association President Mr. Suresh Kalmadi will head the organizing committee. Seventy-two countries will participate in this great international event with the participation of elite athletes and the best of Nations. A lot of infrastructure changes that have occurred in the city, new places are created to run the event smoothly. Delhi Games Village will be built on the east bank of the river Yammuna, covering about 63.5 hectares, can accommodate 8,500 athletes and officials.
In the common wealth games, 17 sports will be held at the stadium, including – Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Bowls, Boxing, Cycling, EAD events, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rugby, shooting squash, table tennis and heavy athletics.
Special preparations were made by the Delhi government on this special occasion. Public holiday declared on the closing ceremony of the Games, October 14. Public transport facilities were improved by the introduction of DTC buses and metro buses AC supply. Local transportation added 5,000 new cabs to travel around the city. Strict security measures will be in the village games and other game-related field. To check for any trouble, special equipment control, such as electronic surveillance, CCTV, X-ray baggage scanners, etc. are important places.
